It was a beautiful Saturday; sunny, hot, cloudless! The sky was a perfect light blue, the sun high up in the middle of the day, burning orange-yellow, a warm summer breeze swept over Miami. I'd set out walking to the beach, a small permanent smile on my lips as I slipped past shops and clubs confidently. Even though I knew nobody in this new place, I felt I should act like I would back in England, because I didn't want to come across as a shy girl, because I wasn't. Already, having only arrived in Florida a few days ago, I knew I liked it a lot more than I did West Yorkshire in England. It was always cool weather in my home country, the only remotely 'hot' days we had were when it was the summer months and right in the middle, if we were lucky, it would be warm, but only if we were lucky. Here though, it seemed like the sun was always shining. I loved that. I loved the sun. I thought about it while I made my way down the streets, passing strangers who ignored me even when they shoved past me, hitting my shoulders. A few times I stopped to look back at those people, but instead of them turning around to look at me as well, they just kept on going. Sighing, I continued my walk to the beach.
When I had reached my destination, I stopped, my mouth opening slightly in a silent gasp. It was better than any beach I had seen in the U.K. The sand was soft and white, the sea was calm and blue, waves splashing down, not stopping for the people who attempted to block its path. The place was alive with people laughing, having fun and socializing. The other, calmer people were dozing in the sun, catching the rays, getting a tan. I then took off, passing more people and then sitting down at on a solitary deck chair. I pulled my white top off to reveal a pink spotted bikini, and decided to keep my skort (skirt with shorts) on, after tossing my top aside, I took out my phone, checking the time. The numbers read 13:47, meaning it could get warmer from here. I smiled slightly, slipping on my large sunglasses and laying back on the deck chair, slightly sheltered by the shadow cast from the small umbrella set up behind me. I pulled my iPod Touch out of my bag and placed the earphones in my ears, then pressing play, quickly getting lost in the awesome beat of the dance music. In my head, I fantasized about many things, even though, to some people, fantasizing might seem like a thing for teenagers, but really, anyone could do it. There's nothing wrong with making up your own perfect story, though I guess only the better, more creative people are also the ones with a happier life. And I, Kari Rose, am a lot happier and more creative than most people I know.____________________________________________________
