By upbringing, Harper was anything but a city girl. Having grown up in New England and later moved to a small southern town in Louisiana the whole New York City scene was pretty unfamiliar to her. In fact, most time she spent in cities was because of tours like TGIF. New York City was a stranger to her. The crowded streets, the excess of star bucks, and the rude cab drivers were not her usual everyday thing, but of course Harper liked it. In fact, she almost thrived on new things. They were what she lived for and found exceptionally interesting. Therefore, she welcomed New York with open arms and a grin on her face.
However, her time in New York was only to be short lived. Beyond the Barrier would go to a few parties, play a couple of sets, and then say adios to the city and go on with the tour. There were plenty of other places they had to hit on the tour and New York was only to be the first of many. It was only the sad truth. Most of her time was taken up with rehearsal, partying and playing with the band, leaving her very little time to actually soak up the culture of New York. That too was another part of the sad truth.
Harper however was determined to make the most of her stay. Therefore, whenever not busy, she spent her time hitting the typical sites such as the M&M store, home of the most awesome candy ever, where she bought what might be considered an excess of blue and green peanut butter flavored ones, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the empire state building, the MOMA, and a ton of different Starbucks. All in all, it was very fun, especially the M&M part, but the experience just didn’t feel complete. Something or rather some place was definitely missing, a place that of course she couldn’t leave New York without seeing.
That place was central park. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the park was over a mile large and home to bird watcher, joggers, an ice-skating rink, sculptures, and rock climbing to name a few things. To leave New York City without going to Central Park would be like to go to the Empire State building, and leave without going all the way to the top, meaning it just wasn’t done, and if she didn’t go, it wouldn’t be the full experience that Harper wanted and was determined to get. Harper was sure she’d have to go back to reality soon, but soon was better than right now.
After walking through the park for a bit, Harper stopped to look at the ever so beautiful Bethesda Fountain which a statue of an angel in the middle with for cherubs beneath her. The day was nice enough with the sun shining and a crisp wind blowing so a bunch of people were around to admire the beauty of the fountain just like she was doing. Ignoring them, Harper sat down on the edge of the fountain, her back facing to it, and took out her ipod which was promptly turned on with the earbuds placed in her ears under the hood of her sweatshirt which covered her signature brilliant red hair.
