Charlie is special, and there is a lot that makes it so he has to struggle in life. It really has nothing to do with him, its just genetics. You see my friend here has Aspergers Syndrome. It means that he struggles socially and mentally. Don't get me wrong though, because he is a genius, and has a heart of gold. At the age of eighteen, he is about to finish college and hopes to work as an intern under a chemist or biologist. His dream is to either find a way to help the symptoms of Autism, and all together put an end to the disease. Anyway, now to get to him on a basic level. Charlie, or as he likes to be called Ian, is a rich and only child. The sad part about it is his parents want nothing to do with him, and Ian needs the help. Seeing as he has always been different, hes had no one to talk to. No one had understood what was wrong with him until he was almost twelve years old, so he never really got around to making lasting friends. He has grown attached to being alone and finds it unbelievable that people would befriend him.
He was labeled a genius to freakish levels in school because he was fixated on his studies. It was because of his condition that he was so attached to what he learned to do well. So he skipped one grade, and then two, and then another, to the point that he is now four years ahead. He does have his lazy points at times and that is so to say on a social level. He really doesn't take the time to get to know the people around him. He doesn't understand how to, and what he says always comes out wrong. He says whatever comes into his mind as well, so calling him brutally honest would be a harsh understatement. He is incredibly adventurous and is always getting into something new. He is passionate about science, and about anything related to school. On the opposite track, he is massively naive and ignorant. He doesn't get whats good and bad sometimes in relation to social protocall so he does get pestered for it.
Friends are a bit rare, but people are fascinated by him. Its taken ages for people to take on that he is rather normal, but just has some things that trouble him. Its hard for him to get close to people because he can't figure them out. It takes patience around Ian and if you've got it, youve got a friend. Family is impossible so he does tend to hover to close friends who he treats better than his own blood. He would much prefer to live with someone else because he hates the way he is treated, though he normally gets whatever he wants.
Enemies are out there for sure. Some of it is due to ignorance, and the rest is just jealousy. Considering he is so smart, he has people who are older and much less aware of who they are. Ian doesn't know the difference and usually gets taken advantage of. He has to have someone to take care of him in social atmospheres for that reason. But yeah, I feel sorry for the fact that he has to deal with people like that.
Lovers. Wow, if Ian even knew what to do with himself. He has yet to be kissed or anything of the sort. He has no idea on this subject but needs to learn. He has ideas, and feelings, but cant project them in the manner he wants and needs to. He always comes across as irritating or just awkwardly, and just ends up getting ignored. He is a real person and is no different from anyone else. There are people to understand that so please show my boy here some love.
