There were two options in regard to the usual date night; the little black dress or the white dress. She had paced over to the mirror, drifting past the fire. Night had caressed Miami under the silk of stars, calling all its minions to sleep, but she was getting prepared for a romantic night with the love of her life. She held up the two dresses, alternating them by pressing them against her body in examination. Which to wear? she thought to herself, finding that the decision was harder to make than she thought. Both were short, both were beautiful, both were expensive, both were enough to perfectly compliment her female features enough to promote a prolonged glance. Placing the two dresses down, she slowly slipped from her pajama bottoms and t-shirt, in nothing but a bra and panties. She had no shame in what she did, having the practice of a thousand nights to work from. After slipping on the dress, she feigned difficulty with the zipper in the back. The black dress fit her figure perfectly, snug and forming around the elegant curves of her body. She gave herself a moment or two to examine herself in the mirror, her face completely masked with contemplation. Regarding herself in the mirror, Aurora studied the intricate details of her features and it feels as though time momentarily slows. She is happy, she realizes, eyes washing over the fine lines around the corners of her eyes, around her mouth, where youth is escaping her.
She had finally made the final touches to her appearance, finding that time was more important. The last thing she wanted to do was show up late to dinner, how stupid would that be? Andrew King was the love of her life, her best friend and future husband. They’d just been best friends who knew pretty much everything about each other – then, Andrew left to enlist in the army. The moments away from him, she realized that a stronger feeling had developed. She loved him, and she would only love him. Now, she was happily settled into his life, permanently. Aurora exited the mansion that she shared with Andrew, and walked swiftly to her car. She started the engine, adjusted the mirrors and set off for Gotham Steak. She drove for ten minutes, only stopping at red lights and avoiding the roads that were flooded with traffic. Stepping tentatively out of the car, Aurora approached the doors of Gotham Steak. "Reservation for Fe-King," she mumbled to the man at the door. They exchanged smiles, a proper greeting and she was on her way to the table reserved for the two.
It was surprising to see that she had been the first to arrive. Andrew was always well prepared, quick to respond to things and even planning. It was nice to know that she didn't have to plan every romantic evening - their relationship was balanced. She didn't want it any other way. Aurora sat upon the nearest chair, her gaze trailing to the one facing her from across the table. A few moments the waiter returned, asking for orders. "Well, my date hasn't arrive yet, but i think I'll take a diet coke," she mumbled. She originally ordered a soda as her beverage, Aurora decided to throw caution to the wind and drink, something she rarely ever did due to being such a lightweight. So she changed her drink order to a margarita. It was surprising to find her drinking, but the night was full of surprises. Little did Aurora know, the biggest surprise of her life was planned for the evening. The ending, however, was her biggest nightmare.

"come on guys, you're making me late." a few wolf whistles followed this beleaguered yet amused tone. someone's hand ruffled his hair from behind and drew felt his shoulders smacked in good wishes. they knew he planned great things tonight - great, life-changing events that would finally align himself with the woman he had known and loved since they were kids. literally. his fellow employees and closest friends were hardly letting him to the door without a catch of air. they meant well, but those brown eyes locked on the clock and he issued a low curse. he would be late! there was no way he'd get down to gotham steak in ten minutes. disappointed, he thanked their enthusiasm and well-wishes, then bid them farewell. no more time could be wasted. the only thing that could excuse his lateness was probably the events of the evening.
drew quickly bounced down the stairs as he tugged his long sleeves back down the length of his arms and smoothed out the wrinkles. it was customary of him to make himself more comfortable by scrunching the material to his elbows, but it wouldn't do to show up looking like a man who'd just gotten off work, no matter if he had or not. this was his future wife - the woman he planned to start a family with and share the rest of his life with. there was no doubt in his mind what her answer would be. it had taken him three years longer than planned to work up the courage to get to this point. she had asked him before if he ever planned to marry her, had doubted him and loved him in the same instance. now she wouldn't need to doubt his intentions any longer. he wanted her more than he thought it was possible to want another person. she was his one. and what a lucky man was he to have her wait so long for him to come around.
the second he got into his red aston martin, drew's nerves went right through him. was his hand shaking? it was the good kind of nerves, though. the ones a person got when they were aware things would end well, they just weren't sure what to imagine. a good, but scary feeling. it was a big move. he was ready to do it.
gotham steak appeared crowded tonight. perfect. a lot of people needed to be there so they could clap once she said yes - it would make her night, he just knew it. he retrieved his gray jacket before walking through the door, drew scanned the tables, immediately latching onto the vision in that little black dress. his eyes brightened and chest clenched, as per usual. every time he saw her, she took his breath away. it never changed. a soft smile was given to the male behind the stand. "he-king reservations." seconds later, he was shown to their table but it wasn't like he needed directions. that lavender scent would lead him blindly. and there was always that hint of cinnamon that followed her, too. he'd grown so used to it that he never seemed to realize that smell of her sometimes followed him to work as well.
"rorie," he greeted his lover warmly, leaning down to press their lips together. she tasted so right. drew's fingers brushed through her brown blonde-streaked hair briefly before he pulled up a chair just a few inches away from her. the waitress was there instantly. "a bottle of your finest champagne, please. whatever you'd suggest." the smile he gave her was short before he turned his full attention back to aurora. drew grasped one of her hands in both of his as he smiled, wanting some contact between them. "how was your day?" he made small talk for now. the right time wasn't there quite yet. but the box in his pocket felt heavier and more noticeable than it had in a long while.
