"Darling!" A woman's voice called out as her young son pulled out of her grasp, and wriggled his way into a store full of quidditch supplies. "Darling, don't get lost!" While her voice was colored with slight concern, it was clear that her son would be quite fine in the store, surrounded by broom sticks and posters adorned with famous quidditch teams. The woman's husband reached out for her hand, giving it a slight squeeze. "Don't worry." His voice was almost a growl, but it was reassuring to her.
Much has changed in the decades from the fall of Voldemort to the present, yet it isn't unusual for the feeling of unrest to linger. However, amidst the colorful umbrellas covering street peddler's carts and the sweet aromas emanating from restaurants and cafés, any witch or wizard browsing the shops of Diagon Alley is completely safe. No longer are Death Eaters (who have been permanently disbanded) prowling the premises, scaring any hope of happiness from wizard kind. No longer is the wizarding world in a state of war against itself. No longer is Lord Voldemort terrorizing and torturing wizards and muggles alike.
Since the great battle that took place in 1998, Hogwarts castle has been rebuilt to it's former grandeur, the bits of the castle that had been blown away by the Death Eaters have been restored. However, some new ideals have been instilled in the students of Hogwarts; while the four houses remain, all the rivalries that caused the many troubles and burned bridges of the past have been somewhat quelled. Interhouse cooperation is well on it's way to being possible, exactly what the Sorting Hat asked for several years before.
So here we are, a new school year beginning for the students of Hogwarts, the days passing by as usual for the older wizarding folk. While old flames never completely die out, the fire that was once tearing the world apart has now become the reason witches and wizards are working harder than ever to keep their world at peace.

It's 2024 and the wizarding world has never been so peaceful.
