How could a solitary man like Kayden Meyer feel at home on an outside stage in front of a crowd that was full of strangers? It may as well have been considered the eighth world wonder. Regardless, he stood there with self-assurance as he watched people congregate around him from all directions. He was opening up for a better known local band and therefore didn’t expect the majority of those people to be there for him. He skimmed the faces, searching for the one that he knew for a fact was there to see him and only him. There was no sign of her yet but he wasn’t all that worried, he had gone onstage at seven forty five instead of eight and couldn’t really imagine her getting there more than ten minutes in advance.
Strumming the last note of his guitar, Kayden smiled a little and said, ”That song was called ‘Judas Kiss’. For those of you just getting here, I’m Kayden Meyer and if you like the music, I’ve got my EP for sale back by the merch table.” He ran his fingers through his hair, feeling much more masculine after finally having it cut earlier that day. It had been a year since his last hair cut, after the breakup he just didn’t have any motivation to groom himself and now that he had found a reason to, it felt great. This new style reached half way down his neck but layered itself into thick side bangs towards his forehead. It was a great improvement from the waves that used to reach just past his shoulders.
The fact that he and Sam had been somewhat official for about a week and a half now made him all the more eager to impress her. Usually, he left the guitar playing to someone else so that he was able to jump around a lot on stage. Mind you, he was a great guitar player but he preferred to use his Jeff Beck 1954 Les Paul Oxblood and using such a rare guitar in public just wasn’t a good idea so he generally just stuck to playing in his apartment. For this occasion, however, he had brought out his Fender Mustang so that he could show Samantha what a beast he was on the chords.
He turned around and nodded to the bassist and drummer, two friends of his that had volunteered to help him with the show, signaling them to prepare for the next song on the set list. He adjusted the microphone upward slightly before he said, ”I recognize some of you out there from my previous shows, you guys are awesome. As for the rest of you, I’m pretty sure that you’re awesome too.” He grabbed his water bottle and took a gulp from it before saying, ”So I need to ask a favor of you awesome people tonight. Are you willing to help me?” he laughed a little as the crowd became much louder through shouts and whistles. ”Thanks guys, you’re great. I’ve got this girl coming tonight, she’s pretty incredible, and she’s never seen me on stage before. I need you guys to be the most enthusiastic crowd that I have ever performed for. I don’t care if you’re here to see me, if you’re here to see one of the other bands, or if you just stumbled on over to see what was happening. I need you to be on your feet and being loud. Got it?” The growing crowd roared and Kayden smiled brightly saying, ”Good, I’m counting on you guys.” The music started up again and he counted himself down before singing, ” Forced to the wall, the crosshairs shift from this tied down burden: Courage. What did you expect? A nightmare of reason and faith alike?”
After following this song up with two more of his own, he asked the crowd, ”So I hate keeping you guys from seeing the bands that come after me in the line-up, but I’ve got a few covers for you. Anyone here listen to Fall Out Boy?” As he expected, the group got loud and excited. In his mind, bands like Fall Out Boy got more media hype than they should but it didn’t stop him from enjoying the music. ”Good, I’m going to play Sophomore Slump for you. What about my all time favorite band, Brand New?” Much less noise than Fall Out Boy but he had expected that also. ”Well you’re going to hear Jude Law and A Semester Abroad because it’s a cool song.”
He had seen Samantha approach the area as he was singing the second song in his set list, In Our Defense, and he was finding it increasingly difficult not to jump off the stage to go and say hello. As he wrapped up his Brand New cover he smiled and gave her a slight wave, just to let her know that he had been aware of her presence. ”You guys are definitely one of the best crowds I’ve ever seen,” he said into the microphone as he lifted the guitar off of his shoulder. He set it down on a stand nearby and picked up an Alvarez Acoustic, strumming a chord to make sure that it had stayed in tune. As he approached the microphone again, he said, ”This is the last song I’ve got for you this evening and it’s going out to my girlfriend, Samantha. She’s probably one of the coolest people I’ve ever known so I can manage to forgive her for being a Slipknot fan.” He smiled to show that he was teasing before saying, ”This is an acoustic cover of I Caught Fire by The Used.”
He kept his eyes on her as he played, a subtle smile playing across his face. It had taken him a while to find a song that was appropriate to play for her. After two weeks of knowing somebody, you’re not going to be singing them a song about how you’re so in love with them and nowadays songs were either about being in love or breaking up. ‘I Caught Fire’ said clearly that he was falling for her without implying that he was one of those clingy freaks that was “in love” after two days of knowing her. Plus, it was by The Used, the band that she had mentioned when they first met.
”I'm melting in your eyes…” he concluded before saying, ”Thank you guys. Check out the EP.” With that, he took his guitar off of his shoulder and put it into its case before grabbing his Fender and doing the same thing. He grabbed a case in each hand and exited down the backstage stairs that led directly into the small parking lot. Setting the cases into the trunk, he locked the car and ran back up onto the stage. He jumped down off the side, landing on the pavement four feet below. From there, he quickly approached Sam and wrapped his arms around her waist. He kissed her on the top of the head and asked, ”So what did you think?” TAGGED Samantha Mountford WORDS 1,189 OUTFIT CLICK! Sexy, no? TEMPLATE Template & Pic By arro @ Caution! So perhaps Samantha had made a mistake in assuming that it would only take her an hour to get ready to go. She'd spent most of the day just chilling out, reading some books, watching some tv. She also had thoughts of tonight and how amazing it was going to be, so needless to say she was taking alot longer than an hour to get ready she was going to be late she knew it. The clock already told her it was nearly time for Kaydens show and she had only just finished fixing her hair. She still have make up to do and everything else. The thing that had took the longest had been her decision on what to wear, she wanted to impress him desperatley ever since they'd made it official it was like she had to try a million times as hard to impress him because someone better could come along at any moment, so she went through almost every outfit she owned until she had chosen the perfect one. It was pretty but subtle although she probably wouldn't look like she belonged at a rock concert but hey if she was going to be hanging with the star she had to look good right?
She finally finished her make up after what seemed like years. Within moments she was dashing out of the door it was a relief that she didn't live too far away from the beach or this could have been disastrous, she had opted to walk guessing that there would be alcohol somewhere and she certainly wasn't willing to let that pass by especially not after how nervous she was feeling. She immediatley crossed the sand moving over to where the crowd was gathered she was impressed to hear the voice coming from the inside, she had to question for a moment if that was Kayden and the moment she found out it was a smile spread across her face. Wow. He was amazing, she could feel herself just in these few moments falling alot harder and alot faster. She'd liked him before but now this was a whole new level, it didn't feel like they were in a crowded place. It felt like it was just her and Kayden. She waved back as he shot her the quick wave, she didn't want to pull his attention from him work, she also didn't want it to feel like she was getting special treatment, a few girls turned to stare at her wondering who could make a man react like that but she was too transfixed on Kayden to actually care what anybody thought. She cheered and clapped with the rest of the people, she could honestly say she'd never felt prouder, he seemed comfortable on the stage, like that shy boy she'd met at work had dissapeared.
She was dissapointed to hear that it was coming to end, she seriously was enjoying listening to him. Although his words definetley caught her attention... When he called her his girlfriend, her heart skipped a beat and when he named her, her heart skipped another beat. If he wasn't careful he was going to lead her right to a heart attack, she bit her lip laughing as he mentioned the slipknot comment. She was never going to be able to live that down that was for sure. When she heard the song he was playing her smile spread wider, he really amazed her.
She kept her eyes fixed on his the whole time, the same smile spreading across her face, she bunched her hands up against her chest, she was aware that people were staring at her but she really didn't care. His singing was beautiful and it summed up her feelings too perfectly, she guessed they summed up his too. Things were amazing if they kept going this good she was certainly never going to tire of him ever. When the song ended (too soon for her liking) she jumped up clapping and cheering probably louder than everybody else as he dissapeared off the stage. She would of felt dissapointed if she didnt know he would find her in a few seconds. She moved to the back and purchased one of his EP's whenever she was down, she was pretty sure she could listen to this and it would make her happy again.
Sam allowed her eyes to wonder around, she now really couldn't wait to see Kayden and she was slightly surprised to feel a pair of arms wrap around her waist but she knew who they belonged to, she felt the kiss on her head and wrapped her arms around his neck immediatley. "You were incredible seriously. Lets go to Vegas right now and get married! Your never ever getting away." [/b] She laughed of course that wasn't going to happen right now, she could see it in the future. "I'm so sorry I missed some of it. I'm honestly devastated. That last song was amazing I seriously appreciate it. Even if you did announce my music tastes to a bunch of people who are probably gonna beat my ass for it. You should have seen the looks I got."[/b] She nodded her head punching his shoulder playfully of course she didn't mean it. If it made Kayden happy she was willing to take the risk. "So what are we gonna do with the rest of our night... I mean are you sure you want me now your all famous?"[/b] She pouted playfully, she hoped when he finally did become famous he did want her, his fame was inevitable he was too amazing to be ignored forever. His heart skipped a beat when she mentioned Vegas and he laughed a bit nervously. Yeah, he knew she was kidding but the thought still threw him off a little bit. Obviously, he liked Samantha a lot more than any of the other girls he had met in Miami (except for maybe Desideria because she was pretty much his sister), but the thought of commitment, even as a joke, made him slightly uneasy. It wasn’t that he was afraid of it, he was actually quite fond of the idea that one day he would settle down and have a family of his own, he just knew that he wouldn’t be ready for marriage or anything that came with it until after he had finished college and gotten started on his career. Worried that she might think that he was upset, he gave her a slight squeeze and changed the subject by saying, ”Thanks for coming, it really means a lot to me.”
Yeah, he had kind of been hoping that she would have been able to see him perform some of his own songs but he knew that there would be other opportunities in the future so he wasn’t too disappointed, at least she had been able to hear his cover for her. ”I’m glad you enjoyed it,” he said bashfully, unable to keep from blushing a little, ”I thought you would.” The real truth was, he had been slightly concerned about how she might react to him dedicating a song like that to her while they were still in the early stage of their relationship. Of course, he hadn’t expected her to react negatively to the tribute; he had just been worried that something on that level might make her uncomfortable.
Kayden laughed a little when she brought up his Slipknot comment. ”You know, I hope they do kick your ass,” he said teasingly, ”It might make you think twice about the bands you choose to listen to.” He seriously doubted that she had gotten any harsh looks; it wasn’t as if he had pointed her out to people or anything. However, if she had, he would have been oddly alright with it. He would be fairly satisfied to know that the people out there that were cheering him on were not the same people that enjoyed the horrendous sounds that were produced by those psychotic men that covered their faces in disgusting masks for the sake of publicity. It was pretty pathetic in his mind; musicians shouldn’t have to disguise themselves in order to get attention.
Had she just called him famous? Yeah, he could almost hear the sarcasm drip. Not really though, he knew that she hadn’t meant it to be mocking in any way; she was merely trying to be supportive of his music. Fame wasn’t what he was after though, he was just playing for the sake of playing. People could absolutely hate his songs or tell him that Slipknot was much better than he would ever be and he wouldn’t pay them any mind. The reason he was up on stage was not because he knew that people liked his music but because it was something that he enjoyed doing. He was fairly selfish in the sense that he wasn’t going to change his style in order to please those preppy thirteen year old girls that only really listen to certain bands if the lead singer is cute. He’d gladly take playing his choice of music and having only four fans over playing some catchy tunes and having a million.
”I don’t know,” he said playfully as a smile crept across his face, ”I was actually planning on hanging out with Shakira.” He shrugged slightly and said, ”Nah, I really don’t know. What do you want to do?” He probably should have given the night some more thought but he had never been the type of guy that was good at planning things ahead of time. He had more of a passive personality and did better when he was just going with the flow and following someone else’s directions for the day. On occasion, he’d hang out with someone that had the same passive characteristic and the majority of their time spent together was just sitting around and having the same boring conversation that consisted of, ”What do you want to do?”, and “I don’t know, what do you want to do?”. The mere thought of it made him want to hit his head against a brick wall but he just couldn’t bring himself to be the leader and suggest ideas.

She knew the way to terrify a guy and send them running for the hills it wasn’t hard, often it could be used as a real test of how long they planned on being with you. She wasn’t doing anything of the sort in mentioning marriage it was just her way of saying how much she liked his performance but the look on his face made her think that maybe if this had of been a test he would of failed quite miserably. Was he not aware she was kidding? She didn’t want marriage to happen not for another few years at least and kids were out of the question right now. She was a little embarrassed if he thought that’s the type of girl she was, she wasn’t clingy by any stretch of the imagination in fact she was usually really spacey. She had made a decision to actually try with Kayden, try and make herself less distant when it came to men but maybe that was the wrong approach, she smiled lightly as he squeezed her shaking out of her own stupid thoughts. “It’s no problem really. Thank you for inviting me.” [/b] She nodded as she turned her head to look at the now slightly more crowded space, people had shown up late to see the actual band but she figured that they would, cover bands generally weren’t very good but in this case they’d missed out. She found it very cute when he started blushing as she laughed not at him but more with him… Or not really. Was she that predictable? That already he could telll what she would like and what she didn’t. Some people may see that as a bad thing but it just meant that she would get more of the things she wanted without having to say them outright, he was a little more closed off for her; she wasn’t sure how to read him sometimes. “I think it would have been impossible to hate it anyway.”[/b] She nodded her head, even people who didn’t like The Used couldn’t deny that he covered that song well he made it appealing to not just fans of The Used but fans of a number of genres and best of all it was dedicated to her. She was a little caught off guard by his next comment; he hoped she got her ass kicked? Her jaw practically fell on the floor. Well he’d ruined the sweet moment, she was okay though because she knew he was joking then again even if he wasn’t she wasn’t sure that she’d care that much. “You know, just wait until you take me to see slipknot live, I’m going to point you out and make sure you get beaten.”[/b] She nodded seriously; she wasn’t sure she’d stand back and watch she’d probably get a kick in or two. Nah, she wouldn’t let him get hurt but well it was apparent that he would. “Your right my taste sucks. I mean my taste in music, my taste in clothes and especially my taste in men. I mean look at the latest loser I’ve picked. I need to sort myself out.”[/b] She put her shoulder against his letting him know she was joking, she wasn’t going to have an argument with him over something so silly so she just wanted to make sure the situation would not get out of hand. She knew he probably wouldn’t take her words seriously but she meant them. It was an injustice if he didn’t start getting at least some recognition maybe she was slightly biased but she’d seen the reaction the crowd had given him, they were into his music and she was too. She wanted him to start believing that he could reach heights that he never thought possible and maybe she was not here to give him a kick up the ass. She laughed at his name dropping, she hadn’t expected Shakira to come out there was a part of her that became slightly self conscious at that comment because it suggested that maybe he had a thing for Shakira but there was the common sense part that told her that he didn’t have a chance with Shakira so she was going to be safe. “Ahhh good choice, it’s okay because I’m pretty sure Johnny Depp is waiting for me around the corner. Just for the record though, I can shake my hips just as good as Shakira.”[/b] She smirked considering demonstrating but then that would prove that she was a liar and she wasn’t willing to expose herself just yet. Luckily she wasn’t one of those people who just went back and forth with the do you want to do thing, in fact she couldn’t stand it. It was just such a waste of time if one person would just pick something then it could have all been over way before now, she refused to fall into that trap she would say anything before falling into it. “How about a walk on the beach? Cheesy I know but I’ve been cooped up a lot. I’ve never actually taken the time to check it out. Or is that a little bit too chick flick for you?”[/b] She was serious in her question, she knew that maybe he would be uncomfortable with how cliché and cheesy it could be considered but she knew that it wouldn’t be filled with the expected romance, infact it would probably be a lot of chasing and pushing in the sea and all that kinda stuff, she could see it being really fun. Kayden found himself grinning like a fool once again when she mentioned that his cover would be hard to hate. He had never been the best at judging himself when it came to singing songs that weren’t his own so he often left it up to the audience to give him some feedback. However, it meant infinitely more coming from her than anyone else that might have something to say about his capabilities. Maybe that was a little bit backward, considering that she was his girlfriend and therefore had some obvious partiality towards him. Regardless, she was the person that he was trying to impress and her comment managed to make his night even better.
”Woah woah woah…” Kayden said as she mentioned seeing Slipknot. ”I’m not going to take you to see those freaks live,” he told her somewhat playfully, ”It would go against absolutely everything that I believe in… I’d rather take you to see the Jonas Brothers.” He stared at her with a smile until she made the comment about her taste in men, then he just laughed and shook his head a little. ”Wow, really?” he asked, crossing his arms and shaking his head some more, ”That was harsh. “ Of course he wasn’t genuinely mad, he knew for a fact that she was just messing with him but he decided that he might as well act as if his feelings had been hurt and see if he could earn a kiss or something out of it.
Not the obvious sexual implications again, he thought as she made the Shakira comment. Couldn’t she see that he had been without sex for at least two weeks now and was growing increasingly easy to turn on? It just wasn’t fair, she was a woman and therefore came with more self control than he did. ”Funny you mention Johnny Depp,” he said, trying to focus on the other half of her reply, ”People tell me that I resemble him in Benny and Joon.” It was true, though it was probably based off of the fact that Johnny Depp had long brown hair in that movie and in his younger years he had a facial structure that was similar to Kayden’s.
A walk on the beach seemed more than perfect to him, it was one of his favorite places to be. Sure the beach in Miami wasn’t quite like the ones that he had seen in Spain during his childhood travels and it certainly didn’t have the perfect surfing waves like Australia did, but it was still a nice place to relax especially at this time of night when most of the tourists had left to eat dinner and go to sleep. ”I don’t find it chick flick at all,” Kayden told her, grabbing her hand in his, ”I think it sounds like an amazing idea.” Alright, so it was a little bit cliché but it wasn’t as if he really minded. Any date suggestion nowadays seemed to be cliché and Kayden wasn’t about to search for something that defied that statement. Maybe one day he’d ask for a make out session inside an active volcano, but for now he was perfectly willing to settle with chick flick.
