lucy needed a life. well, more of one at least. lately she hadn't been doing much other than hanging out and reading. which was not normal lucy behavior. was something wrong? no. so why wasn't she out there, having fun? that was one question lucy would have liked to have the answer to. sadly, though, it was continually eluding her, as usual. she stared up at the ceiling of her dorm room and sighed. maybe it was laziness. whatever the reason, today it would change. lucy was going to get up, get ready for some fun, and have a great day. but first she needed someone to spend it with. time to search out a friend. lucy reached over to the nightstand and grabbed up her phone. she turned onto her side and opened up the contacts list. no, no, no, no, and no. sure, she wanted to hang out with some of them, but she knew they'd be busy. after all, it was a beautiful saturday and people usually had plans on days like this. so it looked like she'd be exploring alone. maybe she'd make a new friend. with any luck, lucy wouldn't end up being alone the whole time. that was never fun. it meant she'd be talking to herself. not that she never did that anyway, but it was a bit odd from other people's point of view, lucy knew. she rolled herself off the bed, landing on her feet as usual, before stumbling sleepily over to her closet. ten minutes later, she was dressed, awake, and had a bag packed with some candy. everything was ready.
the fourteen-year-old found herself wandering the halls at first. she really had no specific place she wanted to be. outside would be nice, though she didn't feel like walking all the way to wonderland. sure, they had a cute café and that amazingly awesome candy shop that lucy loved so much. but her feet hurt so that was out of the question. the courtyard would be a nice place to sit and hang out, though. it was so pretty around this time of year, with spring just coming in. so why not? she had her candy, her phone, her notebook. lucy could spend hours just sitting there, eating and writing. songs, stories, poems, whatever came to her. it was a nice thing to do sometimes, when she felt cooped up and super bored. which was right about then. so yay for going outside! lucy grinned to herself and grabbed a handful of skittles out of an open bag. favorite food ever? why yes, yes it is. lucy couldn't resist eating them as she walked down the hallways on her way to the courtyard. lucy started humming a half finished song she had been working on. it was probably one of her favorite projects, though she wasn't totally sure about the lyrics. maybe she'd make some sort of break-through today. lucy really hoped she would. that song needed to be finished. really.
a few more steps and the sunshine broke onto lucy's face. ah, spring. such a wonderful time of year. so bright and warm and, well, springy. lucy practically skipped over to a bench that was right next to the fountain. she knew better than to sit on the edge of the fountain. last time that had happened, ed had pushed her in. sure, she had only been angry for about two minutes, but still. she didn't want to have to go back and change or risk getting her notebook wet. lucy laid down on her stomach on the bench and placed everything just so around her. not many other students were sitting out here right now. that was kind of a big surprise. after all, the weather was perfect. no one should have been staying indoors. if nothing else, people should be doing what she was doing and just sitting outside and enjoying the air and the breeze and the beautiful flowers. lucy began to idly sketch a flower in the margins of her paper. her mind was off in another world so she didn't notice the person approaching her until the hand reached down and grabbed a few of her skittles.
